Disaster Relief Housing

Cameron County, TX

Working with a wide range of agencies including CDCB, Cameron County COG and Austin Community Design and Development Center, CamargoCopeland has developed a rapidly deployable disaster relief housing prototype that bridges the gap between temporary relief housing and permanent housing. Designed to be delivered as a “Core”, it contains a living space as sleeping quarters, kitchen, utility room and bathroom. This Core unit is soon after expanded into a full size residence of either 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms to permanently house disaster victims.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the disaster relief prototype was conceived utilizing SIP technologies, efficient HVAC and heating systems, and energy star appliances. The goal is to provide Texas families with energy efficient permanent housing that utilizes disaster relief funds currently available for temporary housing, thus bridging the gap between disaster relief and permanent housing.
