June Shelton School and Evaluation Center
The Master Plan addresses the unique needs of the Shelton School and Evaluation Center to create a self-contained campus community, providing a Comprehensive PK-12 Program.
Shelton’s Master Plan positions the School to fulfill its vision and mission of developing a world-class educational campus which incorporates an appropriately balanced program of academics, athletics, the arts, and the sciences to serve and empower the lives of students who learn differently.
The Master Plan maximizes land use for the 33-acre site; positioning the school to achieve its goal to increase its future student body from 965 to 1,400 students while providing a flexible environment supporting a multitude of opportunities for its students to excel within their strengths.
Guiding the master plan was the desire to create a special sense of place engendering school pride. The master plan allows for the development of the site in phases, incorporating a layering of sculptural building façade forms expressing and representing the wealth of artistic talent in this unique student population.
This new campus with an integrated sports complex allows for athletic activities to take place on campus, thus providing standard and expanded facilities for students, parents, and the community. These facilities will provide ample space for the students to practice and compete. The sports complex will accommodate outdoor sporting events such as football, track & field and baseball; indoor facilities include three competition gyms for basketball, volleyball & special events; space for wrestling, and an athletic training facility.
The Fine Arts Program will afford the Shelton School to continue to excel in the preparation and integration of the arts in its educational offerings. Ultimately, the complex will house a performance theatre and black box theatre, Film Studio with production, editing and live broadcasting; Music program inclusive of its well-known Drum Line, choir and band; and Art Studios for 2D and 3D art programs.
