Universities Center at Dallas
Dallas, TX

This project is a professional university environment set in the historically Art-Deco Titche-Goettinger department store at 1901 Main Street.  Built in the early part of the century, in the Historic 48 district of downtown, this urban educational facility includes classrooms and professional training areas for the local college district, DISD, and seven state universities - providing a unique teaching/learning environment for professionals, students, academia, and administrative personnel alike.

The scope for Phase I included partial renovation of first, second and third floors and related systems upgrades; Phase II entailed renovation of the fourth floor.  Beyond the basic design services, Phase II’s renovation included reconfiguration of an abandoned existing freight elevator into a new passenger car, which serves all nine floors.  Developed in a contemporary manner, the finishes, lighting and ornament reference the rich Deco heritage of the building.
